ANOTHER CLOSET
Crayon drawing and Xerox transfer stone lithograph, 2023.
PREPARE / REPAIR
The athlete’s locker room is a transitional space – both a place of preparation and a place of repair. This transformative preparation is both physical (changing from street clothes into a uniform) and mental (athletes “getting their head in the game”). The act of repairing is also both physical (a place to cleanse, and literally repair the body through saunas, ice baths, or massage) and mental (analyzing and reflecting on plays and the game or match just played).
Through a series of lithographs, explore the locker room as a place of preparation and repair, considering how the athlete’s body and mind occupy this space.

Created for Headmaster No. 10: The Sports Issue, responding to my assignment above. As the unathletic trans child of a professional bodybuilder, I have always felt that sports were not for me. Once I began my transition, everywhere I looked online I saw images of other trans men becoming gym rats, creating another layer of ostracization. I place myself in these locker rooms as a way of trying on a new identity - the version of me that could feel repaired, rested, and motivated in an athletic space. Even as I imagine this other universe, something doesn't quite fit.
